Ground Potential Attack Suppressor---GPAS

GPAS (Ground Potential Attack Suppressor) is an active lightning protection device that combines ground potential attack suppression and fault arc defense. It can significantly reduce lightning damage, Arc damage and destruction of the equipment through suppress the ground potential counter-attack .


The fact of lightning 

– It must be respected at all times, not just during the peak periods of a thunderstorm.

– It is unpredictable. This makes researching natural organic strikes very hard.

GPAS has fault self-diagnosis function, which can effectively monitor the fault of the system and equipment, and timely report result through the temperature sensor, indicator light display and remote communication; meanwhile, timely switching the equipment through the bypass switch function in order to ensure the normal operation of system.


GPAS is utmost reliability and realizing that it can effectively isolate the high-frequency lightning current in shorter operation time to prevent invasion of the ground network by lightning current flowing ;At the same time , it tests accurately the fault arc, and then disconnect the circuit breaker to avoid accidents of Fire, explosion etc.


Ground potential attack

The major of electronics damage from lightning strikes. The most damages is not caused by direct lightning strikes, but is the result of Ground potential attack, When a lightning strike directly on a building or facility with LPS(lightning protection system includes lightning rods, metal conductors and ground grid ) , the ground potential can be raised to thousands of volts during  microseconds. The lightning currents from the various parts of the ground to the power supply system and a variety of network signaling systems,in order to attack and destroy electronic equipment. This attack will expand the damage of large-scale equipment in the form of electromagnetic wave along the Neutral line and the ground point.


In the meantime, there is a risk that sparks may be induced at high potentials in non-bonding lead circuits with equal potential. When the ground potential attacks make the grounding of each device to have high potential at the same time. If the device is not connected to ground or the grounding of equipment is not good, As result , not only the device will get breakdown, but also the equipment operator will be hit by electric shock!


Arc fault

When lightning strikes, the ground potential often causing arc fault with high power, high temperature and high rapid diffusion.Its maximum power up to millions of kilowatts, arc temperature up to 2000 degrees 


Under the action of strong airflow and electric field, the high temperature and heat generated by the fault arc leads to the insulation tier of line. If there is the combustible material near the fault point, it can easily ignite the combustibles Which led to fire accident .


Electric arc disturbance

Arc welding is the most widely used welding method in industrial production.the principle of Arc welding is that utilizing low voltage and high current to generate arc for continuous power supply and melting the metal for welding. the temperature up to 5000 ~ 8000 ℃, bipolar temperature up to 3500 ~ 4200 ℃.


Arc welding will produce a large number of arc current flowing into the network, when the lack of ground grid protection, the arc current flows into other production plants in order to  equipment damage; At the same time, operator often drag and drop the electric welding wire during welding, easily damage the insulation to cause a short circuit, resulting in fire or casualties accident.

Function :

1 GPAS barrier the lightning current to flow into the secondary winding path of transformer, so that to utmost all the lightning current or other strong interference current flows into the grounding grid, protect the transformer and secondary equipment and keep the electrical system safe.


2GPAS can accurately and quickly detect the fault arc in the system, early-fire warning and protection and greatly reduce the fire accident.
